Most lists of church post ideas give you a one-line prompt: “share a testimony,” “quote your pastor.” The hard part is the next step. What do you actually write, what do you film, and who has time to edit it? This guide answers all three for every idea.
It is written for the communications lead or volunteer who runs a church's accounts and is out of ideas by Wednesday. Ruah Creative House is a post-production studio for churches in Elizabeth, New Jersey. We edit the footage churches send us every week, so the ideas here are the ones we see work, sorted by what your team can make on its own.

How to Use This List
Each idea has four parts: the post, its format, a sample caption, and how to make it. The captions are starting points. Change the details to your church, keep the shape.
- Make it yourselfA volunteer can make it with a phone, no editing software needed.
- Ruah cuts it from SundayIt needs editing time: cutting, captions, graphics. This is the work Ruah does from your Sunday footage.
Of the 60 ideas, 36 are ones you can make yourself. Do not try to post all of them. Pick one from each group and hold it for four weeks. The weekly rhythm that keeps a small team on schedule is in our church social media strategy guide.
Ideas 1–10: From the Sermon
The message is the richest source your church has, and most of it is never seen again after noon on Sunday. These ten posts all come from one recording.
- 1
The one-sentence clip
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionIf you only hear one line from Sunday, make it this one. The full message is on our YouTube channel.
How: 30 to 60 seconds around the line the pastor would put on a sign. Captions burned in, so it works with the sound off.
- 2
The question the message answered
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionWhy does God feel quiet when you need him most? Pastor took that question head on this Sunday. Watch the answer, then tell us what you think.
How: Open on the question, not the answer. A clip that starts with a real question gets watched to the end.
- 3
Sermon quote graphic
Text graphic (square)Ruah cuts it from SundaySample captionSunday's message in one sentence. Save this one for Wednesday.
How: One sentence, the pastor's exact words, the series title small at the bottom. No stock photo behind it.
- 4
Three takeaways
CarouselRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionMissed Sunday? Three things we heard, one per slide. Which one do you need this week?
How: A title slide, one slide per point, a last slide with the full-message link. Same look every week.
- 5
The scripture, read aloud
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample caption“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28, read on Sunday. Who needs to hear this today?
How: The moment the pastor reads the passage, with the words on screen. A verse heard in a voice travels farther than a verse on a graphic.
- 6
The story from the sermon
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionThe story from Sunday, start to finish, in under a minute. Stay for the last line.
How: Cut the whole story, beginning to point. A story clip that stops halfway reads as a tease, not a gift.
- 7
The full sermon, edited
YouTube videoRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionThe full message from Sunday, with chapters so you can jump to the part you need.
How: Trim the dead air at the start, add a title card and chapter times in the description. This is the source every clip links back to.
- 8
Monday's one action
Text graphic or StoryMake it yourselfSample captionSunday asked us to do one thing this week. Ours: call someone we've lost touch with. Tell us yours below.
How: Ask the pastor on the way out: what is the one thing people should do this week? Post it Monday morning.
- 9
The series trailer
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionA new series starts this Sunday. Four weeks, one question: what does it mean to rest? Come for week one.
How: Four to six short moments from the pastor's announcement or last week's message, cut to 30 seconds, with the start date on screen.
- 10
The pastor's lobby recap
StoryMake it yourselfSample captionTwenty seconds with Pastor, still in the lobby: what Sunday was about.
How: A phone, the pastor, right after service. One take. Rough is fine here; it is a Story and it disappears in a day.
How to choose the moment for a clip without changing what the pastor meant is in our guide to sermon clips that keep the message intact.
Ideas 11–20: From the Room
Guests decide whether to visit by what the room looks like. These posts show it honestly, from the chairs before anyone arrives to the hallway after.
- 11
The room before anyone arrives
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionChairs out, coffee on. There's a seat for you this Sunday.
How: Shot from the back of the room with the lights up. Post it Saturday with the service times.
- 12
A worship moment
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionSunday sounded like this. Come sing with us.
How: Keep it short and read the music section below first: a worship song can get a clip blocked or muted.
- 13
Sixty seconds of Sunday
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionSixty seconds of Sunday: the welcome, the worship, the message and the hallway after. This is what it's like to walk in.
How: Film short pieces all morning on one phone, in landscape. The edit puts them in order with the pastor's best line in the middle.
- 14
Ten photos from Sunday
CarouselMake it yourselfSample captionTen photos from Sunday. Tag yourself, or someone you sat with.
How: Wide shots and backs of heads, unless people have said yes to being shown. Best photo first.
- 15
The setup crew
StoryMake it yourselfSample captionBefore anyone walks in, this team has already set up every chair. Thank you.
How: Film the crew mid-work, not posed. It also quietly recruits the next volunteers.
- 16
The kids' craft table
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionToday's lesson, in glue and paper. Ask your kids what Noah built.
How: Hands and crafts only, no faces, unless a parent has said yes in writing. Give parents a question to ask in the car.
- 17
A baptism moment
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionSunday, one of our church family went under the water and came up new. Welcome home.
How: Ask the person before the service, and let them see the clip before it posts. Film from the side, wide, with the audio from the room.
- 18
The quiet moment
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionBread, cup and a quiet room. Grateful for this table.
How: Communion or a prayer time, shot without faces. Turn off the shutter sound and the flash.
- 19
The hallway after
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionThe best part of Sunday sometimes happens after the last song.
How: Groups talking, coffee in hand, shot from a distance. It tells a guest people actually know each other here.
- 20
Sunday notes
Photo or StoryMake it yourselfSample captionWhose Bible looked like this on Sunday? Show us your notes.
How: An open Bible or notebook with Sunday's passage. Repost the ones people send back, with their OK.
Ideas 21–30: From People
Stories of people in your church are the posts members share most, and the ones that need the most care. Every one of these needs the person's yes before it goes up.
- 21
A testimony clip
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample caption“I walked in that first Sunday sure I didn't belong.” One story from our church family, shared with permission.
How: Record the person sitting down, close, with a clip-on mic or a phone held near them. They see the edit before it posts.
- 22
Volunteer spotlight
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionMeet one of the people who greets you at the door. Why they serve, in their own words.
How: One photo and one quote. Ask: why do you keep showing up for this? Use their answer word for word.
- 23
Why I serve, in 30 seconds
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionWhy stand in the parking lot in the rain every Sunday? We asked.
How: Film the answer after service, then a few seconds of them at work. The edit puts the answer over the work.
- 24
Staff takeover
StoriesMake it yourselfSample captionOur worship leader has the account today. Ask her anything.
How: Hand over the phone for one weekday. Add a question sticker so followers can ask, and answer the best three.
- 25
An answered prayer
Text graphicMake it yourselfSample captionThree months ago we prayed for a job for one of our families. Last week the call came. Keep praying with us.
How: Only with the family's yes, and only the details they choose. A plain text graphic is enough.
- 26
Small group snapshot
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionTuesday night, one living room, one book of the Bible. There's a chair for you in a group.
How: A living room, a table, people mid-laugh. End with where to sign up.
- 27
A milestone
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionFifty years married, and they still sit in the same row. Happy anniversary from your church family.
How: Anniversaries, graduations, a new baby. Ask first, and keep it to people who want the attention.
- 28
New members welcome
CarouselMake it yourselfSample captionSay hello to the newest members of our church family. Say hi when you see them Sunday.
How: One slide per family who said yes, first names only.
- 29
The serve-day recap
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionSaturday our church served our neighbors. Here's the day in 45 seconds.
How: Short clips through the day from two or three phones, sent the same night. The edit keeps the people and the work, not the speeches.
- 30
Why I brought a friend
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionShe almost didn't ask. Then her neighbor said yes. Who could you bring this Sunday?
How: A member tells the story of inviting someone. It turns a request into an example.
Ideas 31–40: Invitations
An invitation post is the one that asks someone to come. Put the day, the time and the address on every one; a guest should never have to search for them.
- 31
The Saturday invitation
Text graphic or StoryMake it yourselfSample captionTomorrow. Come as you are. Service times and address in our bio.
How: Same day every week, same look. Saturday is when people decide what Sunday looks like.
- 32
First-time guest walk-through
ReelMake it yourselfSample captionHere for the first time? Sunday in 40 seconds: where to park, where the kids go, where the coffee is.
How: Walk the route a guest walks, phone in hand, from the parking lot to a seat. Say each step out loud.
- 33
The pastor's video invitation
ReelMake it yourselfSample captionA quick word from Pastor about this Sunday. Bring someone with you.
How: Filmed on a phone in the empty room on a weekday. Thirty seconds, one reason to come, the date said out loud.
- 34

StoryMake it yourselfSample captionFive days until the fall picnic. Tap the countdown so you don't miss it.
How: Use the platform's countdown sticker so followers get a reminder when it starts.

Text graphicMake it yourselfSample captionThink of one person who'd love Sunday. Send them this post.
How: Make the post itself the invitation. Ask members from the stage to share it that week.
- 37
What to expect for kids
CarouselMake it yourselfSample captionParents, here's exactly what happens when you drop off your kids on Sunday.
How: Check-in, the room, who's in it, pick-up. Photos of rooms and signs, not of children.
- 38
The livestream reminder
StoryMake it yourselfSample captionWatching from home this Sunday? The livestream link is in our bio. Say hi in the chat.
How: Post it Sunday morning, and put the link sticker on the Story itself.
- 39
Series kickoff invitation
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionWeek one is this Sunday. If you've been waiting for a good time to come back, this is it.
How: Cut from the pastor's announcement or a strong moment from last week, with the series title and start date on screen.
- 40
Last year's event, this year's invite
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionThis was last year. This year it's on the calendar again, and you're invited.
How: Re-edit last year's footage to 30 seconds and end on this year's date.

These posts make your church useful to someone who has never been. Each one answers a question a neighbor might actually type into a search bar.
- 41
Explain a church word
CarouselMake it yourselfSample captionWhat does "Advent" mean? Four slides, no church background needed.
How: Pick a word your church says without thinking: Advent, communion, baptism, liturgy. Explain it plainly.
- 42
Pastor answers a comment
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionSomeone asked us: "Do I have to have it all together to come to church?" Pastor answers.
How: Record a few answers after service one Sunday. Each becomes its own clip, with the question on screen.

- 45

Help choose the next series
Story pollMake it yourselfSample captionHelp us choose: Psalms or Acts for the next series?
How: A poll sticker gets a tap from people who never comment. Share the result the next day.
- 49
Prayer request box
StoryMake it yourselfSample captionHow can we pray for you this week? Answers come only to us, and our prayer team prays over every one.
How: A question sticker. Never repost answers; they are private unless someone asks to share.
- 50
Discussion questions
CarouselRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionFor your group, your family, or your own Monday: three questions from Sunday's message.
How: Three open questions, the passage, the series look. Small group leaders save these.
Ideas 51–60: Midweek and the Calendar
The days between Sundays are where most churches go quiet. These ten posts keep the week moving, with one more clip doing the heavy lifting.
- 51
This week at church
StoryMake it yourselfSample captionHere's what's happening this week. Tap through for the day and time of each.

- 52
The Wednesday clip
Reel / ShortRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionHalfway through the week, and this is still the line we needed.
How: A second moment from Sunday, different from the first clip: a story, an application, or a quiet word for the tired.
- 53
Friday thank-you
PhotoMake it yourselfSample captionTo everyone who served this week, the ones we see and the ones we don't: thank you.

How: Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, the first day of school. One warm line and a question.
- 58
Year in review
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionThis was our year as a church. Thank you for every Sunday of it.
How: The best moments of the year in 60 to 90 seconds. Start collecting clips in January, not December.
- 59
Last year, this week
ReelRuah cuts it from SundaySample captionA year ago this week. Some things have changed. The welcome hasn't.
How: Re-cut a strong moment from last year's footage. Old clips are new to everyone who arrived since.
- 60
End-of-season thank-you
CarouselMake it yourselfSample captionOur kids' ministry volunteers gave every Sunday this fall. Swipe to see the team.
How: One slide per team, with their yes. Post it the week a season ends.
What to Write on a Church Post
Every caption above follows the same three lines. Use them for any post you write.
1. Open with a real question or feeling
The first line is all most people read. "Why does God feel quiet when you need him most?" beats "Week three of our series."
2. Give one specific detail
One line, one story, one verse from Sunday. Specific beats general: "Fifty years married, same row" says more than "we love our members."
3. End with one next step
Watch the full message, come Sunday, sign up, send this to a friend. One, not three. On every invitation post, the day, the time and where to find the address.
Four habits that make captions better
- Write for someone who has never been inside. Swap church words ("fellowship," "the body") for plain ones, or explain them.
- Burn captions into every video, so it works with the sound off.
- Use the church's own voice. If your pastor would never say "vibes," neither should the account.
- Keep scripture exact, with the reference and the same translation every time.
Need first lines? Our free 25 scroll-stopping hooks gives you an opening line for sermon clips, worship moments, announcements, giving, volunteer asks and baptism stories.

Advent, Christmas and New Year 2026: Posts by Date
Advent 2026 starts Sunday, November 29, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve is a Thursday. That makes the week before Christmas short: the invitation clip has to be out by Wednesday, December 23. In a 2024 Lifeway Research survey, 47% of American adults said they typically go to church at Christmastime, and 56% said they would likely attend if someone they know invited them. These posts are how your members do the inviting.

What Is the 80% Rule for Churches?
Two different rules go by this name. Both are rules of thumb from experience, not research standards, and both are useful.
The seating rule
“When a facility is 80% full architecturally, it feels 100% full,” in Thom Rainer's words at Church Answers. Church consultants have long said that past 80% of comfortable seating, a room tells newcomers there is no room for them. The Alban Institute notes the rule compares average yearly attendance with comfortable capacity, not one busy Sunday, and that its origin is unclear. For social media, the lesson is simple: if your Christmas Eve room will be packed, post the earlier service time or the overflow plan, not just “come.”
The 80/20 posting rule
The marketing version: about 80% of posts should serve the people who follow you, and about 20% should ask them to do something. For a church, the 80% is the sermon clips, stories, verses and answers in the list above. The 20% is the invitations, sign-ups and giving asks. If every post is an announcement, people stop reading the announcements.
Photos, Children and Worship Music: The Rules to Know
People and children
- Ask before you post a person's face, story or prayer. For testimonies and baptisms, let the person see the edit before it goes up.
- For children, get a parent's written permission first. Many churches also leave children's names off every post and shoot kids' ministry from behind, or show only hands and crafts.
- Keep a list of people and families who have said no, and check it before anything posts. Tell the photographers who is on it.
- Never tag a child, and never post a location with a child's photo.
This is good practice, not legal advice. Your church's own media policy comes first; if you do not have one, write it before you post another photo of a child.
Worship songs in clips
A worship clip is the post most likely to be muted or taken down. CCLI says its Streaming License covers authorized songs performed live in your online services, but that its terms do not override those of the platforms and may not prevent takedown notices on some social media sites. YouTube blocks any Short longer than one minute that has an active copyright claim.
- For Reels and Shorts, prefer a speaking moment: the sermon, a prayer, a testimony.
- If you post worship, keep it short and check your church's license covers the song and the platform.
- For background music, use the platform's own audio library. YouTube says music from its Audio Library won't receive a Content ID claim.
- Keep clips under three minutes: YouTube counts square and vertical uploads up to three minutes as Shorts, and Instagram says it recommends videos of three minutes or less to people who don't follow you.
Where Ruah Fits
24 of the 60 ideas carry the “Ruah cuts it from Sunday” tag because they need editing hours most church teams don't have. Ruah is a post-production studio. Your team records on the phones and cameras you already have, you send the files, and we edit:
- The whole week, every week. Kingdom Content Partner reserves a pool of team hours each week for video editing, sermon clips, graphics, covers and captions. For scheduling and posting, in the partnership's own words: “We schedule and publish the content in your plan to the channels we agree on.”
- The sermon clips. Sermon editing turns each message into clips and full-length edits in widescreen, vertical and square, with captions, thumbnail frames and suggested post copy. Footage in Monday, finished reels by Thursday.
Not sure where your church's content stands today? The free church content audit checklist is 15 yes-or-no questions and takes about five minutes. Prices for the partnership are on the pricing page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should churches post on social media?
Post what your church already has. From the sermon: a 30 to 60 second clip, a quote graphic and three takeaways. From the room: the worship, the setup crew, the hallway after. From people: testimonies and volunteers, shared with permission. Then one invitation every Saturday and one teaching post that answers a real question. Six kinds of posts, all from one Sunday.
What is the 80% rule for churches?
Two rules go by that name, and both are rules of thumb, not research standards. The older one is about seating: when a room is 80% full, it feels 100% full (Thom Rainer, Church Answers), and newcomers read that as no room for them. The social media one is the 80/20 rule: about 80% of posts serve the people who follow you, and 20% ask them to do something, such as attend or sign up.
What should I write on a church post?
Three lines. A first line that names a real feeling or question, one specific detail from Sunday, and one next step with a day or a place. Keep the church's own voice, write it so it makes sense to someone who has never been inside, and put the service time and address on every invitation post.
What are some good captions for church posts?
Short, specific ones. "If you only hear one line from Sunday, make it this one." "Missed Sunday? Three things we heard, one per slide." "Tomorrow. Come as you are. Times and address in our bio." Every one of the 60 ideas on this page comes with a caption written out that you can adapt to your church.
What are creative ideas for church Instagram posts?
A carousel that explains a church word like Advent, a 40-second walk-through for first-time guests, a staff takeover in Stories, a poll on the next series, a baptism moment shared with the family's permission, and a scripture read aloud by the pastor instead of typed on a graphic.
Can a church post photos of children on social media?
Only with a parent's written permission, and many churches go further: no names with children's photos, and kids' ministry shot from behind or showing hands and crafts. Keep a list of families who have said no, and check it before anything posts. This is good practice, not legal advice; your church's own policy comes first.
Can we use worship songs in our church Reels and Shorts?
Carefully. CCLI says its Streaming License covers authorized songs performed live in your online services, but it does not override the platforms' own terms and may not prevent takedown notices. YouTube blocks any Short over one minute that has an active copyright claim. For short clips, use a speaking moment, or music from the platform's own audio library.
What should a church post during Advent and Christmas 2026?
Announce the series on November 22, post the first candle on November 29, a sermon clip every Thursday, and the Christmas Eve invitation from December 13 to Wednesday, December 23. Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24. Thank people on December 27, look back on December 31, and post the January series on January 3, 2027.
Ruah Creative House is a post-production studio for churches, based at 30 Union St in Elizabeth, New Jersey. We turn the footage churches already capture into sermon clips, graphics and story films, for churches across the country.
